Members of the CERCOM consortium will attend and participate at the Transport Research Arena (TRA) conference in Lisbon, Portugal from 14-17 November 2022, presenting the project which is funded by The Conference of European Road Directors (CEDR).
Dr Helen Bailey (ITEN), Lorcan Connolly (RDS), Martin Lamb (ITEN), Prof. Alan O’Connor (RDS), Dr Vijay Ramdas (ITEN) and Dr Emma Sheils (RDS) will be in attendance over the course of the event which takes place at The Lisbon Congress Center (CLL). TRA is the largest European conference focusing on research and technology in the areas of transport and mobility aiming to bring together experts from around the world to facilitate collaboration and foster discussions towards more efficient, safer, carbon-free, inclusive, sustainable transport in all modes.
Within the exhibition area, Prof. Alan O’Connor (RDS) will present the ongoing objectives and developments of the CERCOM project at the Conference of European Director of Roads (CEDR) stand on Wednesday 16th November at 2.30pm. Other members of the consortium will be present to meet with fellow researchers in the area and engage in discussions regarding ongoing developments. In addition, there will be a CERCOM video presentation at the CEDR stand displayed intermittently throughout the conference with information on the project and relevant contact information.
Lorcan Connolly (RDS) will present the paper entitled “Circular Economy in Road Construction and Maintenance”, outlining advances achieved as part of the CEDR funded CERCOM project. This will take place within the session entitled “Internalisation of transport externalities and pricing Carbon 4.3 and Supporting competitiveness and industrial policy 4.4” from 8.30-10.00am on Thursday 17th November. The presentation will discuss the objectives of CERCOM, the development of the Circular Economy Rubric for NRAs and the Risk Based Analysis Framework (RBAF). The RBAF is formalised in an Excel based prototype software tool and various case studies will be examined within the project to demonstrate the capabilities of the framework in evaluating the performance of various technologies in the construction and maintenance of road infrastructure. The presentation will outline how the case studies will be evaluated in terms of monetary costs, environmental impact and circularity potential. The analysis will uncover the difficulties and highlight the opportunities for the implementation of RE & CE principles.
All the consortium members attending the conference are looking forward to engaging with fellow researchers in the common goal to advance research in the area of sustainable transport.
